There are hundreds of discussion threads all across the internet arguing the advantages and disadvantages of Botox and dermal fillers. In many cases, users argue the merits of one versus the other. But they often fail to realise that the procedures can actually complement each other, and are by no means at odds! However, for the benefit of prospective clients in Barnsley who are weighing up investing in dermal fillers, Botox, lip enlargement or nasal reconstruction – we thought we’d take some time to explain the differences between the two.
WHEN ARE DERMAL FILLERS THE RIGHT CHOICE?
One very important substance in our bodies is Hyaluronic Acid. It does a lot to keep our skin looking fresh and youthful. However, Hyaluronic Acid diminishes over time. This contributes toward the visual effect that aging has upon the skin. Dermal fillers involve injecting naturally occurring Hyaluronic Acid into problem areas, lessening depressions, softening lines and banishing wrinkles.
Taking around 45 minutes, the procedure can last as long as 18 months, making it a great medium-term solution to aging and a much less expensive and troublesome alternative to plastic surgery. Dermal fillers can also be used in lip enlargement procedures. Our Barnsley based practitioner only uses Juvéderm fillers, which are world renowned for their sheer quality, subtlety and long-lasting nature.
BOTOX, TITAN OF ANTI-AGING?
It’s important to understand that Botox is different to dermal fillers. Botox is the best known brand of botulinum toxin, a natural protein which relaxes facial muscles temporarily. It is used both to soften and iron out lines and wrinkles, and also as a solution to certain medical issues like hyperhidrosis, or in layman’s terms, excessive sweating. This is an area that dermal fillers can’t help in, making Botox a more versatile product.
Botox is a quick and easy treatment that is popular amongst many of our Barnsley clients due to its affordability. While Botox is a bit cheaper than dermal fillers, it also doesn’t last as long – at an average of between 3 to 6 months. With no long-term side effects and no real downtime following the treatment, there are few disadvantages related to Botox. You can even have dermal fillers and, shortly after, combine them with Botox to achieve an even more youthful image!
But remember, we also offer nasal reconstruction – so if this is a procedure you are interested in, please pick up the phone and give Barnsley based The Healing Centre a call.
